Once the correct position has been achieved
in the backswing you are now set to attack the golf ball.
The first movement in the downswing is crucial
and it is this movement that causes so many problems if not done correctly!
The big body parts i.e. Shoulders, hips, trunk arc worked in the backswing
to create this full body turn.
 |
From this point:
- Keep the back to the target and ‘Pull the chain’.
- This means that the first movement in your downswing should
be a pulling of your left arm straight down to the floor.
- During this first period, notice your back is still to the
target
- The left arm is still extended
- The wrist hinge is maintained
- The body weight remains on the inside of the right knee.
|
|
 |
From this
point half down its time to Attack!
- As the right arm begin to extend the
wrist release and rotate through impact.
- The arms extend fully towards the target.
- The body weight is driven from the right
knee with the entire body
moving forwards through impact (Yes! Even the head)
|
|
Notes:
- Through this point although the head has moved laterally.
(To the right in the backswing/forwards to the left in the downswing)
It has not changed in height at all.
- When to transfer the weight is critical. From
halfway in the downswing the weight is driven forwards in a very positive
fashion, notice how the right heel will start to raise right upon impact.
