- clubhead strikes too high on the back of the ball / hits
near the top of the ball and the ball scuttles along the ground.
Diagnosis
Many faults are in the setup
- Is the grip too tight
- Is the ball too far forward or too far back in the stance
- Are the eyes focussed on the top of the ball
- Are the hands too low on the grip
- Are the knees over-flexed / too bent
- Are you too close, or too far away from the ball.
Many faults are in the swing
- Has the head lifted in the backswing
- Has the body swayed too far sideways right
- Has the weight been held forward and not transferred to the
right in the backswing at all
- Has the spinal angle raised during the backswing (See illustration)
- Has the spinal tilt over the ball been elevated (spinal angle
increased) too soon in the downswing, so the head and shoulders
lift up before the ball is struck
- Are the arms bent (or shoulders hunched up) at impact
- Are you afraid, or do not understand the importance of taking
divots.
