Posture
Posture is the term used to describe the position a
golfer should adopt to execute a powerful, repetitive golf swing.
Posture effects:
- Balance
- Swing plane
- Athleticism
Balance speaks for itself, without
it what chance of control or repetition would you have.
Swing Plane is the line around the
body which the club is swung. It effects both strike quality and a golf
balls initial flight.
Athleticism refers to the movement
from one leg to the other in the golf swing, better known as weight shift,
which assists with both the quality of strike and power.
THE SEX DIFFERENTIAL SEEMS TO EFFECT POSTURE THROUGH
A SINGLE ESSENTIAL ELEMENT – BACKWARD POSTERIOR DISPLACEMENT/HIP
TILT.
- Ladies tend to be reluctant to stick their
bottoms out for various reasons, which are irrelevant, however need
to understand the necessity of it.
- In the photo’s below correct posture
is clearly demonstrated (see photo left) compared to
a typical unbalanced, slouched, unathletic posture (see photo
right).

| bottom out good posture
shoulders back
weight on balls of feet
chin held naturally |
bottom in bad posture
shoulders rounded
weight on heels
chin tucked in |
The sticking out of the bottom promotes good posture
and encourages proper:
- Turning of the shoulders.
- Swing control.
- Clubface control.
And improves:
- Balance
- Athleticism
- Clubhead speed/power.
It also minimises movements during the swing, which
are unnecessary. Think about it! Surely the fewer the movements the simpler
of Golf Swing will be!

Notes:
One of the most common faults I see with
female golfers is the reluctance to strike the club downwards into the
back of the ball and take a divot. This is almost impossible to achieve
without correct posture.
If you are a lady 'topper' then address
your posture.
