3. Posture

Posture is the term used to describe the positioning of the body prior to making a Golf Swing. Let me stress that regardless of club this position will change only fractionally due to the length of the club. Posture will dictate your balance, and without consistent balance you have no chance of making a repetitive swing.
As with the grip this position will feel a little awkward at first however very necessary.

Step 1. Holding your 8 iron, stand upright, and shoulders back with the arms fully extended and lowered so that the club is at waist height.

Step 2. Allow the club head to fall to the ground but only by tilting the hips backwards. This gives the desired effect of keeping the spinal angle straight.
Expanding your chest at this stage also helps with the spinal angle.

Step 3. You will feel a little tightness across the back of the knees. A slight release from their locked position is all that is necessary.

Final Check Points

1. The hands are hanging directly below the chin. This is a position where the butt of the club is about 4-5 inches away from the inner left thigh.

2. The body weight should be neither on the heels or the toes but evenly spread through the balls of the feet.

3. The chin is up away from the chest.
