Body Control
Weight shift is an extremely important part of a golf
swing. If not executed correctly it can cause all sorts of problems. As
a beginner we are told by our golfing friends to keep our heads still!
This is an extremely negative piece of advice, which hinders correct weight
shift. The head must move!
Ladies tend to sway
(see photo below left)
- This can cause problems such as, lost power,
poor balance, fat and thin shots.
- You will see from the pictures below left that the
body weight and head has swayed.
- This is too much to the right, so that the weight
is on the outside of the right leg and foot.
- The head and the right knee are crucial in controlling
the sway. (see photo below right)
- At address feel the right knee flexed. This
is the one intentional stationary position in a golf swing.
- To make a back swing allow the head to move
2-4 inches to the right.
- At the top of the backswing feel the weight
loaded up on the inside of a flexed, stationary right knee.
- Gentlemen tend to reverse pivot.
- This can cause problems such as a pull, slice,
fat and thin shots and definitely lost power.
- Notice from (picture below left). at the top
of the backswing, the right knee has straightened pushing the body weight
on to the left leg.
- A golfer cannot move forward from this point
without topping a ball therefore on the through swing the body weight
moves back to the right leg (see photo below centre)
- This is usually caused through a golfer being
told to keep his head still.
