Lesson 3
Time for a refresher, please read through – Aim,
Grip, Posture,
Stance and Body
Alignment before moving on.
Golf is a difficult game and I see far too often the desire to
run before you can walk so at this stage I would hope you feel comfortable
with the half swing and pose, to a point where it is feeling second
nature.
This lesson’s objective is to pursue the swing a little further
back to a three-quarter position.
| STEP 1
- Place the ball on a tee peg
- Select a 7 or 8 iron
- Assume the correct grip, posture, stance and body alignment
as in previous lessons
- Select a target about 100 yards away
- Initiate the back swing to halfback as in lesson 2.

 |
STEP 2
From half back where the club is parallel to the ground there
is a separating movement of one shoulders and arms
- As the shoulders continue to turn one left arm raises vertically
from
this point noting that:
- The wrist automatically begins to hinge a little.
- You should feel the body weight loaded up on the inside
of the right knee.
- The head has been allowed to move a couple of inches to
the right of the ball. |
|
| STEP 3
Swing the club back down and through impact with a smooth,
Relaxed motion of the arms.
Many golfers at this stage attempt to muscle the ball away
with an excessive use of the shoulders on the downswing. Just
remember, your shoulder work is done in the back swing not
the down swing.
Maintaining a finish pose is critical and will show all is
well in terms of balance and control. |

NOTES
Quality Practice rather than Quantity. Better to practice swing
thinking of your body movements rather that putting too much emphasis
on your results. Remember, its still early days in the learning
curve of the game of golf.
A reluctance to find the exact pose at your peril. Golf swings
are all about repetition and that means right through to the end.
